Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intercepted three suspected gun runners and rescued six kidnapped victims during separate operations in Zamfara State.

The operations, conducted on Sunday, August 23, resulted in the recovery of an AK-103-2 rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds of ammunition. The suspected gun runners were intercepted along the Kaura Namoda-Shinkafi Road while troops were conducting a search operation.

According to the Joint Task Force, the weapon and ammunition were concealed inside a bag of millet and were allegedly being transported to Yar-Galadima in Maru Local Government Area.

In a separate operation, troops responded to an attack on motorists along the Anka-Gummi Road. The attackers were attempting to force six victims into a nearby forest when troops engaged them, forcing the assailants to flee and abandon their captives.

All six victims were rescued and secured by the troops. Three of them sustained minor injuries and were taken to a medical facility, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

The Joint Task Force said the operations demonstrate its continued efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics networks, protect communities and ensure the safety of motorists across Zamfara and the North-West.

Security authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information about suspicious persons, weapons and movements.
