The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed reports suggesting that the party is in an alliance with Governor Alex Otti and the Labour Party, LP, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The state APC chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, clarified the party’s position, stressing that the APC has not entered into any political arrangement with Otti or the Labour Party.
The clarification comes amid growing political activities and realignments in Abia as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship election. The APC has continued to strengthen its structure in the state and has repeatedly maintained that its objective is to win the governorship and other elective positions.
The issue of a possible alliance has generated discussions because of the political activities involving some APC members and supporters of Governor Otti. The party, however, has maintained that individual comments or actions by its members should not be interpreted as an official agreement between the APC and the Labour Party.
Earlier, the Abia APC had also challenged Otti to publicly declare his political allegiance ahead of the 2027 elections, further highlighting the political differences between the two sides.
Political tension in Abia is expected to increase as the 2027 election approaches, with the APC and other opposition groups working to challenge Otti’s administration and the Labour Party. Reports have also indicated that prominent APC figures are already mobilising support ahead of the contest.
The latest clarification therefore seeks to put to rest speculation that the APC may support Otti’s re-election bid or enter into a formal political alliance with the Labour Party.
