The Kwara State Government has distributed 2,000 computers to public secondary schools across the state as part of efforts to strengthen digital learning and improve access to technology in the education sector.
The initiative is expected to provide students and teachers with greater access to digital resources and support the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) into classroom learning.
The distribution forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to modernise public education and equip young people with the skills required to participate effectively in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
Speaking on the initiative, government officials said improving access to computers would help bridge the digital divide between students in public schools and their counterparts with greater access to technology.
The computers are expected to support teaching, research, digital literacy and other educational activities across beneficiary schools.
The government also stressed the importance of ensuring that the equipment is properly maintained and used primarily for educational purposes.
Teachers are expected to play a central role in maximising the benefits of the programme by incorporating digital tools into their lessons and guiding students in the responsible use of technology.
The initiative comes at a time when digital skills are increasingly regarded as essential to education, employment and economic development.
By expanding access to computers in public secondary schools, the Kwara State Government hopes to create a stronger foundation for digital education and prepare students for further studies and opportunities in the modern economy.
The government is expected to continue exploring initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, teaching resources and learning outcomes in public schools across the state.
