President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, as Deputy Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the Northern region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appointment is part of efforts by the ruling party to strengthen its political structure and deepen mobilisation across the northern states as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum.
Buni, a former national chairman of the APC, is regarded as an influential figure within the party and has played a significant role in its organisational and political affairs.
His new assignment is expected to place him at the centre of the party’s campaign strategy in the North, where the APC will seek to consolidate its support base and attract new voters ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The Yobe governor is expected to work with other party leaders and campaign officials to coordinate grassroots mobilisation, engage stakeholders and strengthen the APC’s electoral structures across the region.
Political observers say Buni’s experience as a former party chairman and sitting governor could prove valuable to the APC as it prepares for what is expected to be a highly competitive election.
The North remains a critical political bloc in Nigeria, with its large voting population making the region strategically important to any presidential campaign.
Tinubu’s decision to assign Buni a major campaign role is therefore being viewed as part of the administration’s broader effort to consolidate political support ahead of the 2027 polls.
The APC is expected to unveil additional campaign structures and strategic appointments as the election approaches, with party leaders likely to focus on strengthening internal cohesion and expanding grassroots engagement.
Meanwhile, opposition parties are also intensifying their preparations, setting the stage for a potentially competitive political contest in 2027.
