Former Peoples Democratic Party spokesperson, Segun Sowunmi, has expressed concern that President Bola Tinubu could face allegations of electoral malpractice even if he wins the 2027 presidential election.
Sowunmi made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential race.
“I pity him, because after he wins, they’re going to start saying he rigged,” Sowunmi said.
The PDP chieftain argued that the major challenge facing Nigeria after the 2027 election would not necessarily be who wins or loses, but whether political actors and their supporters would accept the outcome.
He stressed that voters should be allowed to freely choose their preferred candidates and that politicians must respect the results of credible elections, even when the outcome does not favour them.
Sowunmi warned that persistent rejection of election results and accusations of manipulation could create tension and undermine national stability.
He therefore urged political parties and their supporters to prioritise peace and national interest while using legitimate legal channels to challenge any disputed election results.
