Russia has warned the United Kingdom of unspecified “consequences” after British-made drones were confirmed to have been used in recent Ukrainian strikes against military and industrial targets inside Russia.
The Russian embassy in London accused the UK of deliberately escalating the war in Ukraine, warning that the deeper Britain’s involvement becomes, the greater the consequences it could face.
“London’s actions will inevitably carry consequences for which it will have to answer,” the embassy said, without specifying what measures Moscow might take.
The warning followed confirmation from a British military source that UK made drones had been used in recent Ukrainian attacks inside Russian territory. Two British companies are known to have supplied drones to Ukraine.
Britain’s Ministry of Defence said it remained firmly behind Ukraine, stressing that the government would continue providing Kyiv with equipment needed to defend itself against Russia’s invasion.
The latest dispute comes amid a sharp escalation in Ukrainian drone attacks deep inside Russia. Russian officials said hundreds of Ukrainian drones had targeted the Moscow region in recent days, with some attacks damaging infrastructure linked to Wildberries, one of Russia’s largest online retailers.
Moscow regional governor Andrey Vorobyov said a 10 year old girl was injured and a Wildberries warehouse was damaged during one of the attacks.
Russian officials also said about 620 drones were launched towards the Moscow region in the latest overnight barrage, with more than 180 reportedly destroyed by air defences.
The attacks have increasingly targeted Russian oil and logistics infrastructure, contributing to pressure on domestic fuel supplies and the wider Russian economy.
Ukraine has also expanded its use of domestically developed weapons, including the FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile, as Kyiv seeks to strike targets further inside Russian territory.
Russia has previously criticised Britain’s military assistance to Ukraine, including the provision of Storm Shadow missiles and drone technology. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in 2024 that drones using British components and configurations had been used to attack Russian territory.
The latest Russian warning came as both sides continued exchanging heavy strikes.
In Ukraine, Russian missile attacks killed 10 people in the northeastern village of Pechenihy, while deaths were also reported in Sumy, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. Other attacks wounded civilians in several locations, including Kyiv.
On Saturday night, Ukraine launched hundreds of drones towards Russia, including a large number aimed at Moscow. Russian authorities described the assault as one of the most extensive drone attacks on the capital in recent memory.
The UK remains one of Ukraine’s leading military supporters and has pledged further supplies of drones and other weapons as Kyiv continues its defence against Russia’s invasion.
