First City Monument Bank has increased the maximum amount available under its FastCash instant loan facility to N500,000, giving eligible customers greater access to short term financing for emergencies and other immediate financial needs.
The bank said the upgraded facility is available around the clock through its mobile application and USSD platform, allowing customers to apply for credit without visiting a branch.
FastCash is designed as a digital lending facility that does not require collateral, paperwork or a guarantor. Eligibility is determined largely by customers’ transaction activity with the bank.
Customers must have maintained an account with the bank for at least three months to be considered for the facility. Eligible returning customers can access repayment periods of up to 90 days, while customers who have not exhausted their maximum approved limit can also apply for a top up, subject to eligibility.
The increase in the lending limit comes amid growing demand for convenient access to short term credit as households and individuals continue to manage rising financial pressures.
The bank’s Divisional Head, Personal Banking, Tunji Lamidi, said the decision was driven by the need to provide customers with greater flexibility when unexpected financial requirements arise.
He said the higher limit would allow eligible customers to meet short term needs through digital channels they already use, without the traditional requirements associated with branch based borrowing.
The development reflects the growing shift towards digital lending in Nigeria’s financial services industry, with banks increasingly using transaction records and digital platforms to assess customers and provide faster access to credit.
For customers, the digital nature of the facility eliminates several processes traditionally associated with loan applications, including physical documentation and branch visits.
FCMB said applications can be made through its mobile application or by using the USSD platform. The bank also states that customers can apply for FastCash as often as they desire, subject to their eligibility and available credit limit.
The expansion also comes as financial institutions continue to deepen digital banking and financial inclusion by developing products that provide faster access to formal credit.
However, customers are expected to carefully assess the cost of borrowing and their ability to repay before taking up the facility. FCMB’s published terms indicate that interest is risk based, while repayment conditions depend on the tenor of the loan.
The increased FastCash limit is therefore expected to strengthen FCMB’s digital lending offering while giving eligible customers additional room to manage temporary financial pressures.
The move also highlights the increasing importance of technology in Nigeria’s consumer banking market, as financial institutions compete to provide faster, simpler and more accessible credit solutions.
