Seven miners have reportedly died after a mining pit collapsed at Kassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday while the miners were carrying out mining activities at the site.

A resident, Albert Danlami, said the miners were trapped underground following the collapse, prompting residents and fellow miners to launch rescue efforts.

He said the incident caused panic in the community, with residents rushing to the mining site to assist those trapped. Some people were also reportedly injured in the incident.

The Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Molders Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident, saying seven miners lost their lives after the pit collapsed on them.

Community members described the incident as tragic and called for stronger regulation and improved safety measures at mining sites across the area.

They also appealed to the Plateau State Government and relevant agencies to assist the families of the deceased and take urgent steps to prevent further loss of lives at mining sites.
