Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and the Lagos State Government are deepening their collaboration on infrastructure development as the state continues efforts to improve transportation, connectivity and the quality of urban infrastructure across the metropolis.

The partnership reflects the growing role of private sector engineering and construction expertise in supporting Lagos as the state expands its road network and responds to increasing pressure on its transport infrastructure.

Julius Berger has been involved in several major infrastructure projects in Lagos, including the Opebi Mende Link Road and Bridge, which connects Opebi in Ikeja with Mende, Maryland and Ojota. The project was completed and commissioned in 2026, providing an alternative route along some of the city’s busiest transport corridors.

The Opebi Mende project spans about five kilometres and includes bridges, dual carriageways, pedestrian facilities and drainage infrastructure. It was designed to improve movement between major parts of Lagos while reducing pressure on existing roads.

The construction firm has also undertaken major rehabilitation work on critical bridges in Lagos, including the Third Mainland Bridge, Carter Bridge and Iddo Bridge. The projects are aimed at addressing structural deterioration and improving the safety and durability of the infrastructure.

The continued engagement between Julius Berger and the Lagos authorities comes as the state seeks to sustain investment in infrastructure capable of supporting its growing population and economic activities.

Lagos remains Nigeria’s major commercial centre, with millions of residents and businesses relying on its road network every day. Traffic congestion, flooding, ageing infrastructure and rapid urban expansion have continued to place pressure on the state’s transport system.

Julius Berger has said collaboration with government and other stakeholders remains important to delivering infrastructure projects that can meet the demands of modern cities.

The company has also been advocating stronger cooperation among government, industry players and academic institutions in developing more sustainable and resilient infrastructure. At a recent construction and urban development summit in Lagos, it called for greater collaboration to accelerate the adoption of low carbon construction practices.

Beyond road and bridge construction, Julius Berger has maintained a broad presence in Lagos’ infrastructure and building sector. Its completed and ongoing projects in the state include major commercial, hospitality and transport related developments.

The company’s experience in complex urban projects has positioned it as one of the major engineering and construction partners involved in Lagos infrastructure development.

For the Lagos State Government, stronger cooperation with experienced construction firms could help accelerate the delivery and maintenance of infrastructure while ensuring that projects meet required technical and safety standards.

The partnership is also expected to contribute to improved mobility and economic activity by strengthening connections between communities and commercial centres.

As Lagos continues to expand, infrastructure investment is likely to remain a major priority for the state. Efficient roads, bridges, drainage systems and other urban facilities are critical to supporting businesses, attracting investment and improving the quality of life of residents.

The renewed focus on collaboration therefore comes at a time when both public and private sector stakeholders are under pressure to deliver infrastructure that can withstand increasing demand and changing environmental conditions.

With Julius Berger’s technical capacity and the Lagos Government’s infrastructure priorities, continued cooperation could support the delivery of projects designed to improve connectivity and strengthen the state’s position as one of Africa’s leading economic centres.
