Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on a Forward Operating Base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, when a large number of terrorists launched an assault in an attempt to overrun the military position.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the troops responded with sustained fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw after suffering heavy casualties. Several terrorists were reportedly neutralised during the encounter.
The troops also recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the attackers. Surveillance footage reviewed after the engagement reportedly showed some casualties being evacuated by the fleeing terrorists.
The successful defence of the base highlights the continued efforts of Operation HADIN KAI to prevent terrorist groups from overrunning military positions and disrupting security in Borno State.
Security operations are expected to continue as troops work to track fleeing insurgents and strengthen the protection of military formations and communities across the North-East.
