The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced the full digital registration of births and deaths in Adamawa State through the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e CRVS) system.
The Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Adamawa State, Dr. Clifford Zirra, disclosed this during a press briefing in Yola, describing the development as a significant milestone in the state’s civil registration system.
Dr. Zirra explained that the new digital platform would improve the accuracy, security and accessibility of records relating to births and deaths while strengthening the country’s vital statistics system.
According to him, the e CRVS system is designed to simplify the registration process, improve data management and reduce the difficulties associated with the previous manual system.
He noted that accurate birth and death records are essential for effective planning, policy formulation and the provision of critical services such as healthcare, education and social protection.
The Federal Commissioner therefore urged parents, families and relevant stakeholders to ensure the prompt registration of births and deaths across the state.
He called on government agencies, healthcare providers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community organisations and other stakeholders to collaborate with the NPC in promoting the registration exercise.
Dr. Zirra also appealed to the media to strengthen public awareness about the importance of civil registration and educate residents on how to access and use the new digital platform.
He commended journalists and media organisations for their continued coverage of NPC activities, noting that sustained public enlightenment would help increase awareness and participation in the registration process.
The NPC said the introduction of the e CRVS system would strengthen the civil registration infrastructure in Adamawa State and provide more reliable demographic information for government planning and sustainable development.
The initiative is expected to make birth and death registration faster, more efficient and accessible to residents while supporting efforts to build a stronger and more reliable population data system in the state.
