The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 11 suspected cattle rustlers and recovered 40 stolen animals during a series of coordinated operations aimed at combating livestock theft across the state.
The arrests followed intelligence driven operations conducted by police operatives in collaboration with local security groups and community members. According to the command, the suspects are believed to be members of criminal networks involved in cattle rustling, an offence that has continued to threaten the livelihoods of farmers and herders in parts of northern Nigeria.
Police authorities disclosed that the recovered livestock, comprising cattle and other domestic animals, were intercepted before they could be transported out of the state. Investigations are ongoing to establish the ownership of the animals and identify additional suspects connected to the criminal syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State commended officers involved in the operation, describing the arrests as a significant breakthrough in the command’s efforts to curb cattle rustling and other rural crimes. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property and economic activities in rural communities.
