President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has said stronger economic cooperation between Africa and Canada has the potential to unlock new investment opportunities, accelerate industrial development and create long-term value for businesses, governments and citizens across both regions.
Dangote made the remarks while highlighting the growing importance of international partnerships in driving sustainable economic development. He noted that Africa remains one of the world’s most promising investment destinations, with abundant natural resources, a rapidly expanding population and increasing opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture, mining, infrastructure, energy and technology.
According to him, strategic partnerships between African nations and Canada can play a significant role in promoting economic transformation by attracting capital, encouraging technology transfer and supporting the growth of local industries. He stressed that such collaborations should focus on creating shared prosperity through investments that deliver lasting economic and social benefits rather than short-term gains.
Dangote observed that many African economies are pursuing reforms aimed at improving the business environment and encouraging private sector participation. These efforts, he said, have created favourable conditions for investors seeking opportunities in emerging markets. He added that Canada’s expertise in finance, mining, clean energy and innovation could complement Africa’s vast economic potential, creating mutually beneficial partnerships capable of driving sustainable growth.
He explained that industrialisation remains one of the most effective pathways to reducing poverty, creating employment and strengthening economic resilience across the continent. By investing in manufacturing and value addition, African countries can reduce dependence on imported goods, increase exports and develop competitive industries capable of serving both domestic and international markets.
Dangote also emphasized the importance of building stronger trade relationships between Africa and Canada. Increased trade, he noted, would not only expand market access for businesses but also encourage knowledge sharing, skills development and greater cooperation in sectors critical to economic development. He called for policies that simplify trade procedures, improve infrastructure and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The business leader further highlighted the role of private sector investment in bridging Africa’s infrastructure gap. He said investments in transportation, energy, ports and logistics would improve connectivity, reduce the cost of doing business and stimulate industrial growth across the continent. According to him, infrastructure development remains a critical foundation for attracting investors and enhancing regional competitiveness.
Dangote stressed that youth development should remain central to every economic partnership. With Africa possessing one of the youngest populations in the world, he said investments in education, vocational training, innovation and entrepreneurship would equip young people with the skills needed to participate meaningfully in the global economy. He added that empowering young entrepreneurs would create jobs, support small businesses and contribute to long-term economic stability.
He also underscored the growing importance of sustainable development, urging investors to prioritise environmentally responsible projects that support clean energy, efficient resource management and climate resilience. He noted that balancing economic growth with environmental protection would ensure long-term prosperity for future generations while helping African countries meet global sustainability targets.
Dangote reaffirmed that collaboration between governments, development institutions and the private sector remains essential to unlocking Africa’s full economic potential. He said partnerships built on trust, innovation and shared objectives would encourage investment, strengthen industries and improve living standards across the continent.
He expressed optimism that deeper Africa–Canada cooperation would pave the way for increased foreign direct investment, stronger commercial ties and greater economic integration. According to him, by leveraging each region’s comparative advantages, both Africa and Canada can build resilient economies capable of creating wealth, expanding employment opportunities and delivering sustainable development.
As African economies continue to pursue diversification and industrial expansion, Dangote maintained that international partnerships rooted in mutual respect and long-term commitment will remain a key driver of inclusive growth. He said stronger cooperation between Africa and Canada offers a unique opportunity to unlock new value, foster innovation and build a more prosperous future for both regions.
