Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) shares fell after investors signaled they want stronger financial returns from the company’s heavy investments in artificial intelligence, despite continued growth in its AI business.
The chipmaker reported solid quarterly results, with revenue boosted by demand for its AI accelerators and data center chips. However, investors appeared disappointed that AMD’s AI momentum has yet to translate into the kind of explosive growth seen by some of its rivals.
Analysts said the market is raising expectations for AI chipmakers, with investors looking for faster revenue growth, wider profit margins, and clearer evidence that AI spending is delivering significant returns.
AMD has positioned itself as one of the biggest challengers to industry leader Nvidia, expanding its AI hardware portfolio and securing partnerships with major cloud providers. While the company remains optimistic about long-term AI demand, the latest market reaction suggests investors are seeking quicker and larger payoffs.
Despite the share decline, AMD maintained a positive outlook, citing a strong pipeline of AI products and continued demand from enterprise and cloud customers.
