A police officer and two civilians have been killed following a deadly attack by suspected armed bandits on a community in Sokoto State, in the latest wave of insecurity affecting parts of Nigeria’s North-West.
According to security sources, the assailants stormed the village in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents. During the attack, a police officer attached to the area and two other victims lost their lives while efforts were made to repel the assault.
The attackers reportedly operated for several hours before fleeing the scene, leaving behind destruction and fear among members of the affected community. Residents said the incident forced many families to seek safety in neighbouring areas as security forces responded to the attack.
Following the incident, security operatives launched a search operation to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks. Authorities assured residents that additional security personnel had been deployed to strengthen surveillance and restore normalcy in the area.
Community leaders condemned the attack and called for intensified military and police operations to curb the activities of armed groups operating across vulnerable communities in Sokoto State. They also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence that could aid ongoing operations.
The latest attack underscores the persistent security challenges confronting communities in Nigeria’s North-West, where authorities have continued efforts to combat banditry, protect lives and property, and restore lasting peace.
