Vehicular movement was severely disrupted in Gombe after a trailer transporting cattle overturned on a major roadway, causing a prolonged traffic gridlock and drawing large crowds to the scene.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred during the early hours of the day when the heavily loaded trailer reportedly lost control before overturning across the road. The crash left the highway partially blocked, forcing motorists to endure long delays as emergency responders and security personnel worked to clear the obstruction.
Several cattle were reportedly trapped beneath the trailer, while others scattered into nearby areas, creating additional challenges for rescue teams and traffic officials. Residents and passers-by assisted in rescuing the animals and controlling the situation to prevent further accidents.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other emergency agencies responded promptly to the incident, managing traffic and coordinating efforts to remove the overturned vehicle and restore the free flow of traffic. No fatalities were immediately reported, although the extent of injuries, if any, was yet to be confirmed.
Authorities urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles transporting livestock and other bulky goods. They also reiterated the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, adherence to speed limits, and proper loading practices to reduce the risk of road accidents.
Normal traffic gradually resumed after the trailer was evacuated from the road, while investigations into the cause of the accident are expected to guide measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
