Samsung Electronics has reported a remarkable 1,800 per cent surge in quarterly operating profit, driven by soaring global demand for artificial intelligence technologies and the advanced semiconductor chips powering the AI revolution.

The South Korean technology giant recorded one of its strongest earnings performances in recent years as sales of high performance memory chips continued to climb, fuelled by growing investments in AI infrastructure, cloud computing and data centres by leading technology companies.

Samsung said the sharp increase in profitability was largely supported by strong demand for high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips and other advanced semiconductor products used in artificial intelligence servers and high performance computing systems. The company has continued to benefit from the rapid expansion of generative AI applications across industries.

Industry analysts noted that the global AI boom has transformed the semiconductor market, with technology firms significantly increasing spending on advanced chips required to train and operate AI models. This trend has boosted revenues for major chip manufacturers, including Samsung.

The company’s semiconductor division, which had experienced weaker earnings in previous years due to a downturn in memory chip prices, has now returned to strong profitability as supply conditions improved and demand accelerated. Higher prices for memory chips have also contributed to the company’s earnings recovery.

Samsung continues to expand investment in research, chip manufacturing and advanced semiconductor technologies to strengthen its competitiveness in the rapidly evolving AI market. The company is also increasing production capacity to meet growing global demand for next generation memory solutions.

Market experts believe the strong financial performance reflects the increasing importance of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of the global technology industry. They expect demand for AI chips to remain robust as businesses continue investing in cloud computing, machine learning and data driven technologies.

Despite uncertainties surrounding global trade and economic conditions, Samsung remains optimistic about sustained growth in its semiconductor business, supported by rising AI adoption and continued digital transformation across industries.

Analysts expect the company to maintain strong earnings momentum in the coming quarters as artificial intelligence continues to drive investment in advanced computing infrastructure and semiconductor innovation.
