A small group of demonstrators gathered near the White House in Washington, DC, on Wednesday to protest the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump for talks on regional security and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Protesters carried placards describing Netanyahu as a “war criminal” and called for an end to the war in Gaza. Demonstrators also urged the U.S. administration to reconsider its support for Israel’s military campaign and to press for a lasting ceasefire.
The protest took place under a visible security presence as Netanyahu arrived for high level meetings with Trump and senior U.S. officials. Authorities reported no major disruptions during the demonstration.
Netanyahu’s visit comes at a time of heightened regional tensions and follows months of conflict that have drawn international scrutiny over the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The Israeli leader is expected to discuss military cooperation, regional security and diplomatic efforts with the U.S. administration.
Human rights groups and pro Palestinian activists have continued to organise demonstrations in Washington and other major cities during visits by Israeli officials, while supporters of Israel have held separate rallies backing the country’s security policies.
