The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, has dismissed calls for his removal over alleged financial misconduct, describing the allegations as politically motivated and aimed at undermining his leadership.

Oladiji maintained that the accusations against him lack merit and are being driven by individuals seeking to create unnecessary tension within the state legislature. He insisted that all financial activities under his leadership have been conducted in accordance with established procedures and relevant laws.

The Speaker said the campaign against him was intended to distract the Assembly from its legislative responsibilities and ongoing efforts to support governance in Ondo State. He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability and the effective discharge of his constitutional duties.

The controversy follows growing demands from some groups and political stakeholders calling for an investigation into the Assembly’s financial management. The critics allege that certain financial transactions require greater scrutiny, although no formal findings have been made public.

Responding to the allegations, Oladiji urged members of the public to disregard what he described as unfounded claims, stressing that the Assembly remains focused on lawmaking, oversight and policies that promote the development of Ondo State.

Political analysts say the development reflects the internal political dynamics often associated with legislative leadership, particularly as political interests continue to shape alignments within state assemblies. They noted that such disputes are usually resolved through established constitutional and institutional mechanisms.

Stakeholders have called for transparency and due process in addressing the allegations, emphasising that any concerns relating to public funds should be investigated through the appropriate legal and legislative channels to maintain public confidence in democratic institutions.

The latest development comes as the Ondo State House of Assembly continues to deliberate on key legislative matters affecting governance and development in the state, with observers closely monitoring the outcome of the political dispute.
