U.S. President Donald Trump is set to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington on Tuesday, July 28, as the wars involving Iran and Ukraine enter critical phases.
Trump’s relationship with the two leaders has evolved in different directions. Ties with Zelenskyy have improved as Ukrainian forces continue to slow Russian advances, while relations with Netanyahu have become increasingly strained amid White House frustration over the lack of progress toward a broader settlement in the Iran conflict.
Both leaders are also expected to attend a memorial service for late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a longtime supporter of Israel and Ukraine. During his visit, Zelenskyy is expected to press for additional U.S. military assistance, particularly Patriot air defence systems, and meet members of the U.S. Senate.
Netanyahu is expected to seek Trump’s backing ahead of Israel’s upcoming election and discuss regional security, including Iran and efforts to expand the Abraham Accords.
The meetings come as the Trump administration continues diplomatic efforts to end both conflicts, although officials acknowledge there is no immediate prospect of a breakthrough.
