At least 30 people have been killed and several houses set ablaze following a fresh terrorist attack on a community in Kaduna State, in yet another wave of violence that has heightened security concerns in Nigeria’s North-West.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the day, saw heavily armed assailants invade the community, opening fire on residents before setting homes and other properties on fire. Witnesses said many villagers were caught off guard as the attackers moved from house to house, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
Local sources disclosed that dozens of residents lost their lives during the assault, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Survivors were forced to flee into nearby bushes and neighbouring communities in search of safety as the attackers operated for hours before retreating.
The destruction extended beyond the loss of lives, with numerous homes reduced to ashes and families displaced. Residents described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks the community has experienced in recent months, leaving many without shelter or means of livelihood.
Security personnel have reportedly been deployed to the affected area to restore calm and prevent further attacks. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible, while security agencies have intensified surveillance across vulnerable communities in the state.
The latest assault has renewed calls for stronger security measures and increased protection for rural communities frequently targeted by armed groups. Community leaders have urged the government to strengthen military presence in vulnerable areas and provide immediate humanitarian assistance to displaced families.
As investigations continue, residents remain hopeful that those behind the attack will be brought to justice and that lasting measures will be implemented to curb the recurring violence affecting communities across Kaduna State.
