Abuja, Nigeria – Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reaffirmed his commitment to reducing the cost of governance, pledging to significantly cut the presidential air fleet and slash unnecessary government spending if elected president.
Obi said his administration would prioritize prudent management of public resources, arguing that Nigeria’s economic challenges require leaders to embrace fiscal discipline and redirect savings toward critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation.
According to him, reducing the size of the presidential fleet and eliminating wasteful government expenditures would demonstrate responsible leadership and help restore public confidence in governance.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that his vision is to build a productive economy by investing in sectors that drive economic growth rather than maintaining what he described as excessive government luxury.
Obi’s remarks have reignited discussions on the high cost of governance in Nigeria, with supporters applauding the proposal while critics questioned how such reforms would be implemented if he assumes office.
