Spanish champions Barcelona have completed the signing of German forward Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund in a deal reportedly worth €29 million ($33 million), including performance-related add-ons.
The Catalan giants confirmed the transfer on Thursday, announcing that the 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2031.
Adeyemi becomes Barcelona’s second major signing of the summer transfer window as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign under head coach Hansi Flick.
The German international arrives at the Camp Nou with a reputation as one of Europe’s quickest and most versatile attackers, capable of operating as a central striker or on either wing.
Barcelona moved for the former Borussia Dortmund star following the departure of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, while the expiration of Marcus Rashford’s loan spell also left the club seeking additional attacking options.
Club officials believe Adeyemi’s pace, movement and ability to play across the front line will add greater flexibility to Barcelona’s attacking setup as they prepare to defend their La Liga title and compete in Europe.
Despite completing the signing of Adeyemi, Barcelona are still reportedly pursuing further reinforcements in attack, with Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez remaining one of the club’s primary transfer targets this summer.
Adeyemi’s relationship with Hansi Flick dates back to 2021, when the Barcelona coach handed the forward his senior debut for the German national team.
The reunion is expected to help the player settle quickly into his new surroundings as he begins the next chapter of his career.
Adeyemi joined Borussia Dortmund in 2022 after impressing with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, where his goalscoring exploits attracted interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs.
During his four seasons at Dortmund, the forward made 146 appearances in all competitions, scoring 36 goals while establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most dangerous attacking players.
His consistent performances and versatility convinced Barcelona to invest heavily in securing his signature.
The Blaugrana will now hope Adeyemi can replicate his Bundesliga form in Spain and become a key figure in their pursuit of domestic and European success.
With his speed, technical ability and experience at the highest level, expectations will be high as the German international begins life in the famous Barcelona colours.
