“Nigeria’s Super Falcons have intensified preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as they seek a record-extending 11th continental title.
The team’s technical crew has increased the intensity of training sessions, focusing on tactical drills, fitness, defensive organisation and attacking combinations as the countdown to the tournament gathers pace. The preparations are aimed at ensuring the squad reaches peak condition before the competition begins.
Head coach Justin Madugu has expressed satisfaction with the players’ commitment in camp, praising their determination and professionalism during the build-up to the championship. The coach noted that every training session presents an opportunity for players to prove their readiness as competition for places in the final squad remains fierce.
Several experienced stars, including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and forward Asisat Oshoala, are expected to play key roles in Nigeria’s campaign. The coaching staff is also assessing emerging talents, with the aim of blending youth and experience into a balanced squad capable of competing at the highest level.
The Super Falcons will also use their remaining warm-up fixtures to fine-tune strategies and strengthen team chemistry before the tournament kicks off. The friendly matches are expected to provide valuable insights into the team’s strengths and areas requiring improvement.
Nigeria heads into WAFCON as one of the favourites, having dominated the competition since its inception. However, the Super Falcons are expected to face stiff competition from emerging continental powers, including South Africa, Morocco, Zambia and Ghana, all of whom have made significant strides in women’s football in recent years.
Football stakeholders have expressed confidence in the team’s ability to reclaim the continental crown, urging the players to maintain focus and build on the positive atmosphere within the camp. Supporters across the country will be hoping the Super Falcons can once again demonstrate the quality and resilience that have made them Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
As preparations enter their final phase, the Super Falcons remain determined to arrive at the tournament fully prepared, with their sights firmly set on bringing another WAFCON trophy back to Nigeria and reaffirming their status as the queens of African football.
