Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security personnel, have foiled an attempted abduction by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at a school in Borno State.
The security operation reportedly prevented the mass abduction of students, with 46 students rescued during the response by troops.
According to reports, the attackers targeted the school in an attempt to abduct students, but security forces responded swiftly and engaged the assailants, forcing them to retreat.
The incident, however, resulted in casualties, as some students were reportedly killed during the attack.
Security authorities are expected to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the number of casualties and ongoing efforts to track the attackers.
The development highlights the continued security challenges in parts of the North-East, where military and other security agencies have intensified operations against insurgent groups.
Authorities have continued to urge residents and communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to help prevent further attacks.
