Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi has rejected allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar regarding alleged budget duplication, describing the claims as fallacious, baseless, and without factual foundation.

Reacting to the allegations, Nwebonyi maintained that the budget process was conducted in line with established legislative procedures and insisted that there was no deliberate duplication of projects or allocations. He argued that the claims were misleading and capable of creating unnecessary public distrust in the nation’s budgeting system.

The senator urged Nigerians to disregard the allegations, stressing that the National Assembly remains committed to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources. According to him, the budget undergoes rigorous scrutiny before approval to ensure that allocations align with national development priorities and legal requirements.

Nwebonyi further stated that criticisms of the budget should be supported by verifiable facts rather than speculation, noting that constructive engagement is essential for strengthening governance and public confidence in democratic institutions.

The exchange adds to ongoing political debates over public spending and fiscal accountability, with stakeholders calling for greater transparency and open dialogue on issues affecting national development. As discussions continue, observers have urged all parties to focus on evidence-based contributions that promote informed public discourse and reinforce confidence in Nigeria’s budgetary process.
