Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has likened President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, saying the Nigerian leader possesses the vision and determination needed to transform the country through bold economic and governance reforms.
Speaking at a public event, Uzodimma said Tinubu’s leadership style reflects the qualities that enabled Lee Kuan Yew to transform Singapore into one of the world’s most prosperous economies. He argued that Nigeria is at a critical stage where decisive leadership and long-term reforms are essential for sustainable development.
“In President Tinubu, we have another Lee Kuan Yew,” the governor said, describing the President as a reform-minded leader committed to rebuilding the nation’s economy and strengthening public institutions.
Uzodimma praised the administration’s ongoing economic reforms, including efforts to improve infrastructure, attract investment, expand industrialization and create jobs. He acknowledged that some of the policies have been difficult in the short term but maintained that they are necessary to secure long-term economic stability and growth.
The governor urged Nigerians to remain patient and support the President’s agenda, expressing confidence that the reforms would ultimately deliver improved living standards, greater economic opportunities and stronger national development.
He also commended Tinubu’s commitment to fiscal reforms, security and regional development, saying effective governance requires bold decisions capable of addressing long-standing structural challenges.
Uzodimma’s remarks come as the Federal Government continues implementing a series of economic measures aimed at stabilizing the economy, boosting domestic production and attracting both local and foreign investment.
Supporters of the administration have argued that the reforms are laying the foundation for sustainable growth, while critics have called for additional measures to cushion the impact of rising living costs on households and businesses.
The comments have added to the ongoing national debate over the direction of Nigeria’s economic reforms and the leadership required to achieve lasting transformation.
