Ukraine’s parliament has approved the appointment of Sergii Koretskyi as the country’s new prime minister, completing a major government reshuffle as Kyiv seeks to strengthen its leadership while continuing to defend against Russia’s full scale invasion.

Lawmakers voted to confirm Koretskyi after he was nominated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said the change was aimed at improving government efficiency, strengthening economic resilience and preparing the country for another challenging winter.

Koretskyi, the former chief executive of Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state owned energy company, takes office at a time when the country faces continued Russian missile and drone attacks on its energy infrastructure, mounting military demands and the need to sustain international financial support.

Following his confirmation, Koretskyi pledged to prioritise national security, economic recovery and the protection of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. He also committed to accelerating reforms required for closer integration with the European Union and improving coordination between government ministries.

President Zelenskyy said the cabinet reshuffle is intended to make state institutions more effective as the war enters another critical stage. Several ministerial positions were also adjusted as part of the overhaul, reflecting the government’s focus on defence, energy security and reconstruction.

Ukraine continues to rely heavily on military, humanitarian and economic assistance from its Western allies while seeking to stabilise its economy and rebuild communities affected by the conflict. Analysts say the new government’s ability to maintain public services and secure continued international backing will be crucial in the months ahead.
