British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Kyiv on Wednesday to reaffirm the United Kingdom’s long term support for Ukraine, holding talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on defence cooperation, military assistance and post war recovery.
the visit underscored Britain’s continued commitment to supporting Ukraine as the war with Russia enters another critical phase. The two leaders discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defence capabilities, expanding military training programmes and increasing cooperation on defence production.
Starmer said the United Kingdom would continue standing alongside Ukraine for as long as necessary, describing the country’s security as vital to the stability of Europe. Zelenskyy welcomed Britain’s continued backing and thanked the UK for its military, humanitarian and financial assistance since Russia launched its full scale invasion in February 2022.
The leaders also discussed sanctions against Russia, efforts to maintain international support for Ukraine and measures to protect the country’s energy infrastructure, which has repeatedly come under Russian missile and drone attacks.
Britain remains one of Ukraine’s strongest allies and has provided billions of pounds in military aid, including long range missiles, air defence systems, armoured vehicles and training for tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers.
The visit comes as Ukraine continues to seek additional military assistance from Western partners while diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting peace remain stalled amid ongoing fighting across the front lines.
