ABUJA – The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, has pledged to intensify public awareness efforts on Federal Government policies following his conferment with the Fellowship of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Demographics reports.
Alake received the honour at his office in Abuja on Tuesday in recognition of his contributions to strategic communication, ethical public engagement and national development.
Speaking after receiving the fellowship, the minister expressed appreciation to ARCON for the recognition, noting that effective communication remains critical to good governance and national development.
He said the award reinforces the need for sustained public enlightenment on government policies and reforms, particularly in the solid minerals sector.
“This honour validates the important role of effective communication in public administration and strengthens our commitment to openness, accountability and sustained engagement with citizens, investors, host communities and other stakeholders in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda for the solid minerals sector,” Alake said.
Earlier, the Director General of ARCON, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, described the fellowship as a well deserved recognition of Alake’s distinguished career in journalism, strategic communication and public service.
According to Demographics, Fadolapo said the minister has effectively utilised strategic communication to drive significant reforms in the mining sector.
He noted that Alake has combined policy innovation with robust public engagement to reposition the solid minerals sector as a key contributor to Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts.
Fadolapo added that through transparent communication and regular engagement with stakeholders, the ministry has strengthened investor confidence, enhanced public trust and increased awareness of reforms aimed at curbing illegal mining, promoting mineral beneficiation, encouraging value addition and attracting responsible investments.
He also commended Alake’s longstanding contributions to journalism and media practice, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most respected communication professionals whose dedication to professionalism and nation building earned him the fellowship.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials of ARCON, who said the award recognises Alake’s enduring contributions to the communications profession and public service.
