Former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh has pledged to pursue a fundamental shift in U.S. monetary policy, arguing that a new policy direction is needed to eliminate what he described as the “inflation tax” that has eroded the purchasing power of American households and businesses.

Warsh said restoring price stability should remain the Federal Reserve’s foremost priority, stressing that persistently high inflation has imposed significant financial strain on families through rising costs of food, housing, transportation and other essential goods and services. He maintained that a stronger commitment to disciplined monetary policy would help rebuild confidence in the U.S. economy.

According to Warsh, the Federal Reserve must adopt a more consistent and transparent policy framework that places greater emphasis on controlling inflation while supporting long-term economic growth. He argued that stable prices are essential for creating a predictable business environment that encourages investment, job creation and sustainable economic expansion.

His remarks come as financial markets continue to closely monitor the direction of U.S. monetary policy following a period of elevated inflation and higher interest rates. Investors remain focused on signals from Federal Reserve officials regarding the timing and pace of future policy adjustments as inflation gradually moderates.

Economic analysts noted that any significant change in the Federal Reserve’s policy approach could have far-reaching implications for global financial markets, influencing borrowing costs, investment decisions and capital flows across both developed and emerging economies. Changes in U.S. interest rate expectations also tend to affect currency markets, commodity prices and international trade.

Warsh emphasised that reducing inflation would ease pressure on household incomes, improve consumer confidence and strengthen the foundation for long-term economic prosperity. He argued that maintaining price stability is critical to preserving the value of wages and savings while supporting a resilient financial system.

Market participants will continue to assess comments from current and former policymakers as they evaluate the outlook for inflation, interest rates and the broader U.S. economy. Economists believe the Federal Reserve’s future policy decisions will remain a key driver of global market sentiment and economic performance in the months ahead.
