The Bank of Agriculture (BOA), in collaboration with agribusiness firm Japtini Nigeria Limited, has distributed farm inputs and fertiliser to farmers in Taraba State as part of efforts to improve agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.

The intervention is designed to support smallholder farmers by providing essential farming materials ahead of the planting season. Beneficiaries received fertiliser and other agricultural inputs intended to enhance crop yields and reduce the financial burden associated with purchasing farm supplies.

Representatives of the Bank of Agriculture said the initiative aligns with the institution’s commitment to improving access to agricultural support services and empowering farmers to increase production. They noted that partnerships with private sector organisations are critical to expanding the reach of agricultural interventions and promoting sustainable rural development.

Japtini Nigeria Limited described the programme as part of its contribution to advancing modern farming practices and supporting the government’s efforts to boost domestic food production. The company encouraged beneficiaries to make effective use of the inputs to maximise productivity and improve their incomes.

The organisers explained that timely access to quality fertiliser and other farm inputs is essential for achieving higher yields, particularly as farmers continue to contend with rising production costs and climate-related challenges. They expressed confidence that the support would help farmers improve output during the current farming season.

Beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, describing it as a significant relief amid increasing input prices. Many said the assistance would enable them to cultivate larger portions of their farmland and improve harvests, ultimately strengthening household incomes and local food availability.

Agricultural stakeholders have continued to advocate stronger collaboration between financial institutions, private companies, and government agencies to ensure farmers receive affordable financing, improved inputs, extension services, and market access. They argue that such partnerships are essential for building a resilient agricultural sector capable of meeting Nigeria’s growing food demand.

The BOA–Japtini partnership reflects ongoing efforts to enhance support for smallholder farmers through targeted interventions that encourage higher productivity, sustainable farming practices, and rural economic development.
