Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Chairman of Zaki Local Government Area, Mallam Mas’ud Aliyu Umar, who died in a road accident in the state.
Umar reportedly lost his life on Sunday evening, November 1, when his vehicle crashed around Konkiyal Village in Darazo Local Government Area along the Bauchi-Maiduguri Federal Highway.
The late chairman was returning to Zaki after attending a stakeholders’ meeting of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi when the accident occurred.
In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described Umar as a dedicated public servant, committed grassroots politician and compassionate leader whose contributions to the state would be remembered.
The governor recalled that before becoming Zaki council chairman, Umar served as Director-General of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), where he contributed to emergency response, disaster management and humanitarian interventions.
Mohammed also praised his commitment to grassroots development, particularly initiatives aimed at empowering youths and women and improving residents’ livelihoods.
He extended condolences to the deceased’s family, the people of Zaki, the Katagum Emirate Council, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Bauchi State chapter, and his political associates.
Umar’s death is a significant loss to Zaki Local Government and Bauchi State, particularly at a time when local councils remain important institutions for delivering public services and development at the grassroots.
