The Katsina State Police Command has arrested three suspects following violence in Yankara, Faskari Local Government Area, where a vehicle was set ablaze and political posters were reportedly burnt.

The police spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu, said the incident occurred on Saturday after a crowd allegedly blocked a road, threw stones and set fire to a Toyota Sienna vehicle belonging to a supporter travelling to an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Faskari.

According to the police, the vehicle had developed a mechanical fault and was parked by the roadside after its driver left for the campaign venue.

Aliyu said officers from the Faskari Police Division, working with other security agencies, dispersed the crowd and arrested Garba Shu’aibu, 25; Salmanu Ibrahim, 18; and Nazifi Hussaini, 30. Investigators are searching for other suspects who fled the scene.

The Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, warned political parties and their supporters against violence during election campaigns. He said investigations were continuing and that anyone found responsible would be prosecuted.

The arrests follow the Katsina State Government’s earlier clarification that the Yankara disturbance arose from a disagreement between participants in a Maulud procession and security personnel over designated routes. The government said the incident was unrelated to Governor Dikko Radda’s campaign activities and urged residents to remain calm.

The incident highlights concerns about public safety and political tensions as campaign activities continue in the state. Authorities have urged residents to avoid spreading unverified information and to cooperate with security agencies investigating the violence.
