The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, Isa Mohammed Ashiru, has denied blaming former Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai for the state’s worsening insecurity.
Ashiru’s clarification followed reports that he attributed security challenges in Kaduna to the previous administration’s removal of several traditional rulers, which he argued had weakened grassroots intelligence gathering.
In a statement issued on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwaheed Olayinka Adubi, the ADC candidate described the reports as misleading and said his comments during a television interview had been misconstrued.
He maintained that the published account did not accurately represent his position on El-Rufai or the security situation in Kaduna State.
Ashiru also called on media organisations to ensure that reports of interviews and public engagements accurately reflect the context of statements made by political actors, warning that misrepresentation could distort public understanding.
The controversy highlights the importance of accurate reporting and careful attribution during political debates, particularly as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections.
Kaduna State continues to face security concerns, making public discussion of measures to improve intelligence gathering, strengthen community-level security and protect residents an important issue for voters and policymakers.
