The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has rejected the inclusion of former governor and Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo on the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council list, describing the publication as fake and misleading.
The controversy followed the circulation of a list naming Dankwambo, the PDP leader in Gombe State and senator representing Gombe North, as a member of the APC’s campaign advisory council and campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, the party said Dankwambo was unaware of the alleged appointment and urged its members, supporters and stakeholders to disregard the publication.
The party accused individuals responsible for circulating the list of attempting to create confusion within its ranks ahead of the elections. It also called on the APC to clarify the circumstances surrounding the development.
However, the APC Publicity Secretary in Gombe State, Usman Murtala, reportedly said Dankwambo’s inclusion was connected to his commitment to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
Murtala also linked the decision to the proposed rainbow coalition in the state, although the circumstances surrounding Dankwambo’s appearance on the state campaign list remain disputed.
Dankwambo, a former governor of Gombe State, is seeking election to represent Gombe North Senatorial District under the PDP in 2027.
The controversy has generated questions about political alliances and cooperation ahead of the next general elections. However, his appearance on the APC list does not, by itself, establish that he has defected from the PDP.
The disagreement highlights the importance of clear communication by political parties as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
