Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has mourned the killing of Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and called for a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.
The governor condemned the killing, describing the late cleric as a religious leader who promoted peaceful coexistence, interfaith harmony and opposition to violent extremism.
Masussuka was reportedly shot dead alongside his associate, Adamu Abubakar, by unidentified gunmen riding on a motorcycle outside his residence in Dustin-Ma Local Government Area on Monday night, October 26, 2026.
In a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Radda expressed shock over the incident and extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Muslim community and others affected by the loss.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
The governor also appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information that could assist the investigation. He warned against actions capable of escalating tensions or threatening peace in the state.
Masussuka was known for his Qur’an-centred teachings and advocacy for peaceful relations among people of different faiths.
His killing has renewed concerns about security in Katsina State, where attacks by armed groups have continued to affect communities. A thorough investigation will be important in establishing the motive behind the attack and ensuring accountability.
