Allegiant Orders Six More Boeing 737 MAX Jets in $720 Million Deal

US airline Allegiant Air has exercised purchase options for six Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft valued at more than $720 million at list prices, expanding its fleet commitments under an agreement signed with the aircraft manufacturer in 2021.

The airline announced the decision on Friday, October 23, with the six aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2028. The final prices will be subject to discounts and price adjustments before delivery.

Following the latest order, Allegiant has 56 firm aircraft under the agreement, including 22 already delivered. The airline also retains purchase options for another 74 aircraft, giving it flexibility to expand its fleet in the coming years.

Despite the order’s headline value, aviation analytics consultancy IBA estimates that the six aircraft have a combined market value of approximately $351 million based on their scheduled delivery year. The difference reflects the distinction between manufacturers’ list prices and estimated market values; the actual transaction prices may be affected by commercial discounts and other contractual terms.

The additional aircraft form part of Allegiant’s longer-term fleet planning as airlines assess future capacity requirements, operating costs and competition in the US aviation market.

For Boeing, the order adds to its commercial aircraft commitments and provides further demand for its 737 MAX family, a key product line in the global market for single-aisle passenger jets.

The agreement leaves Allegiant with substantial room for further expansion through its remaining purchase options, although exercising those options would require additional commitments.
