Swedish autonomous trucking company Einride is expanding its partnership with Nvidia to test the chipmaker’s Alpamayo artificial intelligence model in self-driving trucks, aiming to accelerate autonomous freight operations and reduce development costs.
Alpamayo is a vision-language-action model designed to interpret driving environments, recommend vehicle actions and explain its decisions. Einride plans to adapt the technology using data collected from its commercial freight operations.
The company expects the model to help shorten development timelines and extend autonomous driving capabilities to additional vehicle types and routes.
Initial testing will take place in “shadow mode,” meaning Alpamayo will operate alongside existing driving systems without controlling the truck. Its decisions will be compared with those of Einride’s autonomous-driving software and human drivers while existing safety systems retain control.
Einride plans to conduct a live road evaluation in the second half of 2027. The expanded collaboration builds on a broader partnership announced in September covering autonomous-driving technology, safety systems and AI model training.
The move highlights growing efforts to use advanced AI models to improve the development and deployment of autonomous freight vehicles.
