Six secondary schools across Kwara State’s three senatorial districts have qualified for the final of the 2026 Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) Tax Club Quiz Competition, with a grand prize of ₦2.5 million at stake.
The Guardian reports that the competition is organised in collaboration with the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development to promote tax education and encourage a culture of voluntary tax compliance among young people.
According to KWIRS Head of Corporate Affairs, Funmilola Oguntunbi, the finalists emerged after a semi-final conducted online through a Computer-Based Test (CBT), involving 12 secondary schools.
The qualifying schools are Oro Grammar School, Oro, and Ansar-u-Deen College, Offa, representing Kwara South; Government Secondary School, Lafiagi, and Government Secondary School, Ilesha Baruba, representing Kwara North; as well as St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin, and Ebenezer High School, Ilorin, representing Kwara Central.
Oguntunbi said the exercise was monitored by the KWIRS Tax Club Advocacy Committee, alongside a representative of the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Aina Bose Eunice.
The six schools will compete for the ₦2.5 million grand prize in Ilorin on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
The initiative is part of the state’s efforts to equip students with practical knowledge of taxation and build a generation that understands the importance of tax compliance to public revenue and development.
