Travellers and residents along the Namnai route in Taraba State are continuing to face difficulties more than two years after the collapse of the Namnai Bridge.

The bridge, located along the Jalingo-Wukari highway in Gassol Local Government Area, is an important link for communities, farmers, traders and transport operators moving between northern and southern parts of the country.

Since the bridge became unusable, travellers have had to rely on alternative means of crossing the river, with canoe operators transporting passengers and vehicles.

The disruption has increased the cost and difficulty of transportation along the route. Reports indicate that owners of small vehicles pay thousands of naira to cross, while operators of heavy-duty vehicles can face substantially higher charges.

The prolonged situation has also affected the movement of agricultural produce and other goods, adding pressure to traders and transport operators who depend on the route for their livelihoods.

The House of Representatives had earlier urged the Federal Government to commence reconstruction of the bridge, describing its collapse as a major hardship for road users and communities.

Despite interventions and calls for reconstruction, residents continue to appeal for a lasting solution, saying the prolonged disruption is affecting economic activity and everyday movement.
