AMD is continuing to explore a potential foundry partnership with Samsung Electronics as the chipmaker looks to strengthen its semiconductor supply chain and expand capacity for its growing artificial intelligence business.
AMD CEO Lisa Su said the company remains in discussions with Samsung over possible manufacturing cooperation. The two companies have already agreed to explore a broader partnership covering advanced chip production and memory supplies.
Samsung is also expected to play a role in supplying advanced high-bandwidth memory (HBM4) for AMD’s next-generation AI accelerators, alongside DDR5 memory for future EPYC processors. The cooperation could give AMD additional access to Samsung’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities as demand for AI infrastructure continues to rise.
For Samsung, deeper cooperation with AMD could provide an opportunity to expand its role in the rapidly growing AI semiconductor market. For AMD, working with another major semiconductor manufacturer could help diversify its supply chain as competition for advanced chipmaking and memory capacity intensifies.
The discussions highlight the growing importance of partnerships between chip designers, foundries and memory manufacturers as the global AI boom drives demand for increasingly powerful processors and data-center infrastructure.
