Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the implementation of promotions for 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for the January and July 2026 promotion cycles.

The approval includes the release of ₦235.1 million to implement the promotions across the state’s 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

SUBEB said the affected workers had undergone the required eligibility verification, while corresponding salary adjustments had also been calculated.

The board said timely implementation of the promotions would improve staff morale, career development and service delivery in the basic education sector.

SUBEB currently has about 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel across the 44 LGEAs. It also said the administration inherited promotion backlogs, including arrears covering several years, some of which had previously been addressed by the governor.

The latest approval was ratified by the Kano State Executive Council, paving the way for the release of the funds and implementation of the promotions.
