The Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria has appointed 44 coaches across various disciplines as part of an intensified programme to prepare Nigerian athletes for qualification and medal success at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
In a statement signed by the federation’s Technical Director, Rose Verisimo, Isaiah Erhunwunse was appointed head coach of Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, with Bala Magaji Juwara and Anthony Duilemi as assistants.
Helen Albert will lead the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics team, assisted by Edem Umor Patric and Emmanuel Enejo.
For Trampoline, DMT and Tumbling, Dorcas Abel was named senior men’s head coach, with Osamudiamwenam Amennaghawon as assistant. Osasu Obasohan will oversee the senior women, supported by Godwin Bamidele and Awokunle Ojo.
Edina Ahue was appointed head coach of the senior Aerobics Gymnastics team, alongside assistants David West Tamunuosaki and Jennifer Eke. Michael Ocheke will handle the junior team, assisted by Dimeji Aluko and Toyosi Glory Adeyemi.
The federation also made appointments in Parkour, Acrobatics, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Gymnastics for All.
GFN President Prince Kelvin Erhunwunse said the coaches were selected based on merit, commitment and proven records.
“These appointments were made based on merit, dedication, and the track records of the individuals,” he said, expressing confidence that the technical team can take Nigerian gymnastics to a higher level.
Erhunwunse said the federation’s priority is to develop world-class athletes capable of winning medals at continental and international competitions while building a strong team for Los Angeles 2028.
“Preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics begins now,” he added.
He urged the newly appointed coaches to approach their responsibilities with discipline, professionalism, teamwork and patriotism.
