The Adamawa State Government is exploring strategic collaboration with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) to integrate the newly launched National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System into the state’s digital government infrastructure.
The development was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor on E-Governance and ICT, Dr Ahmed Adamu Hammajam , following his visit to the NIPOST headquarters in Abuja, where he met with the Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Ms Tola Odeyemi.
According to Him, discussions focused on positioning Adamawa State as an Early Subnational Integration Partner for the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System, which assigns unique, GIS-enabled digital postcodes to addressable buildings across Nigeria.
He said the initiative would support the state’s Adamawa 2.0 Digital Transformation Agenda by improving the reliability of physical addressing across key government platforms.
These platforms include the Adamawa Digital Identity Programme, Land Application and Allocation System (LaaS), OneGov, electronic revenue systems, proof of address verification, property records, emergency response services and other digital government platforms.
He also highlighted the potential of integrating digital addressing with logistics and digital trade to expand economic opportunities for farmers, producers and small businesses across the state.
The state government is using the Adamawa Trade Exchange (ATEX) platform to position farmers, micro, small and medium sized enterprises, producers and exporters to participate more effectively in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) He added.
The Special Adviser noted that collaboration with NIPOST could strengthen the logistics chain by supporting product aggregation, fulfilment and last mile delivery through the postal service’s nationwide network.
He further stated that Africa’s digital economy represents an estimated $180 billion opportunity, while AfCFTA provides access to a continental market of more than 1.4 billion people.
According to him, the broader objective is to connect digital identity, digital addressing, digital government, digital trade and logistics to create new economic opportunities and improve public service delivery for residents of Adamawa State.
Dr Hammajam said the initiative is part of the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, which he said is focused on building digital infrastructure capable of improving government services, expanding market access for businesses and strengthening Adamawa’s participation in Africa’s growing digital economy.
He described the initiative as part of the state’s broader Adamawa 2.0 agenda to build a more connected, digitally enabled and economically competitive state.
