The Nigerian Air Force has confirmed that the ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State belongs to the force.
The NAF said the aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin, Edo State, to Lagos when the accident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026.
According to the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF immediately activated search and rescue operations in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.
The wreckage was located near the Naval Base in Igbokoda, while rescue efforts remained ongoing.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, later said preliminary information indicated that 25 passengers and seven crew members were on board, bringing the total number of people aboard to 32.
The NAF said further details about the incident would be released as the rescue operation progresses.
