The Federal Government has confirmed that 32 people were on board the Nigerian Air Force aircraft that crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said preliminary information indicated that the aircraft was carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members.

The aircraft, an ATR-42, was reportedly on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when air traffic controllers lost contact with it at about 9:13am.

Keyamo said the wreckage was later located close to the Naval Base in Igbokoda, while search and rescue operations were activated in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.

The Nigerian Air Force also confirmed the crash, saying further details would be communicated as the rescue operation progresses.

The condition of those on board and the number of casualties had not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.
