At least 28 people have been killed in a renewed wave of attacks across three local government areas of Plateau State despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by the state government to restore peace and prevent further loss of life.

The affected areas, Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi, have recorded repeated attacks in recent weeks, leaving residents in fear and disrupting farming, cattle grazing and other economic activities.

The latest incident occurred on Sunday evening when gunmen attacked Fulani herders travelling in a pickup vehicle around Total filling station in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area. Two people were reportedly killed, six others injured and one person declared missing.

The Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the attack and called on security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible.

The state government imposed the curfew on September 21, restricting movement from 6pm to 6am daily in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu. Security operatives were also directed to enforce the restriction and a ban on motorcycles in the affected areas.

Despite the measures, further attacks have been recorded, including killings of farmers, herders, miners and vigilantes.

Residents have consequently called for stronger security measures and better protection of vulnerable communities, while stakeholders continue to seek a lasting solution to the violence.
