The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of a senior Deputy Inspector-General of Police and Commissioners of Police to Imo State following the abduction of corps members in the state.
The deployment is aimed at strengthening ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted corps members and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
The police authorities said the senior officers would coordinate tactical operations with other security agencies and ensure that all available resources are deployed towards securing the safe release of the victims.
The development comes amid growing concerns over the safety of National Youth Service Corps members travelling to or serving in parts of the country.
The police command in Imo has also intensified intelligence gathering and surveillance in areas suspected to be linked to the abduction.
The IGP directed the officers to work closely with local communities and relevant stakeholders to obtain useful information that could assist the rescue operation.
The police assured the public that efforts were ongoing to locate the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Authorities have continued to appeal for calm while urging anyone with credible information about the whereabouts of the abducted corps members to report to the security agencies.
