The Osun State opposition and a traditional ruler have called on Nigerians to pray for the country as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence anniversary.
The appeal was made in separate messages commemorating the nation’s independence and reflecting on its challenges and prospects.
The opposition urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united while calling for renewed efforts to address insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and other challenges confronting the country.
The monarch also encouraged citizens to continue praying for peace, stability and prosperity, stressing the importance of unity and collective responsibility in building a better Nigeria.
They urged Nigerians to use the anniversary to reflect on the sacrifices of past generations and renew their commitment to national development.
The leaders expressed optimism that Nigeria could overcome its current difficulties through good governance, peaceful coexistence and the collective efforts of citizens.
Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960. The 66th anniversary provides an opportunity for citizens to celebrate the country’s journey while reflecting on its challenges and aspirations for the future.
